event of the day: picasso + parkour
If you want something, make time for it.
So that’s what I’m doing now with art. I want more art in my life (to see, experience, create art), so I forgo the extra hours spent in bed or in pole class in exchange for whatever art I can get.
11am My friends from Prod Madnezz and I went to the first Picasso exhibit in Manila, ‘Suite Vollard’ at the Metropolitan Museum.
It’s a collection of 100 etchings by Picasso, commissioned by French art dealer Ambroise Vollard.
It had classical themes of the Minotaur and the Pygmalion, the artist as the bull, the artist as the shaper of women. This collection is inspired by his mistress Marie Therese Walter. The story goes that when he met her, he was so captivated that he said, ‘I am Picasso, I’m an artist, let’s do great things together.’ WOW. I want to be able to use that pick up line somehow!
As Picasso’s infatuation with Marie Therese waned, so did his classical style. When he abandoned this style of work, he left Marie Therese, too, for a new style and a new girl –Dora Maar. Life=art.
Over lunch at Aristocrat along Roxas (a classic!), we tried to figure out how I can emulate Picasso– I was thinking of having love-affairs-based art. New year, new lover, new theme, new set of works. Wouldn’t that be fun!
8pm After pole classs, I headed to the Christmas party of Parkour Philippines. I met founder Ira Villar last year, when he took a men’s pole class. I met the rest of the boys February of this year when we had a gig together, and I became PKPH core shortly after. I saw the possibilities in pole+parkour, and we started cross training.
The results were a photoshoot…

We grilled corn and burgers and kebabs, and played drinking games– King’s Cup, shot roulette, plus! Pinoy Henyo. hahaha. The night ended with kris kringle, Alvin generously taking shots for the already-drunk, and Derek doing 80 pushups and 25 situps as penalty for the drinking games.
